Poultry Health services has access to services from 2 well established laboratory sites at Edinburgh and Yorkshire. The group sites cooperate to provide a full range of veterinary and food safety related testing. Group laboratories operate to a number of internationally recognized quality standards such as ISO17025, GLP and GMP. All laboratory sites offer a fully integrated service with the Poultry Health Services Clinical team. Diagnostic testing is an essential part of PHS’s integrated service to its clients that maximises the health, welfare and productivity of their livestock, helps improve food quality and safety and thereby contributes to the profitability of their businesses.
The Edinburgh Laboratory was founded in 1995 as the first UK private sector laboratory with specialist capability in cell culture, virology and infectious disease diagnostics. Molecular diagnostic (PCR) capability was added in 2000 and this continues to be an area of strength and growth through innovative new tests and collaborations. Edinburgh provides PCR diagnostic tests to Poultry Clients throughout the group as well as a full range of other tests. The Edinburgh site recently launched a state of the art poultry microbiology and serology laboratory which has ISO:17025 accreditation for a number of poultry tests and is also approved by DEFRA for testing under the CSPO, ABPR and TARP regulations as well as Poultry Health Scheme testing.
The York lab has relocated to our specialist diagnostics laboratory in Sheriff Hutton. We provide a full range of veterinary and food safety related testing including; serology, water analysis, feed analysis, litter quality testing, environmental/hygiene analysis, bacteriology: Post mortem, Salmonella, Campylobacter, fungal isolation and parasitology. Our new facility will enable us to improve and develop services even further offering the industry an unparalleled serology, virology and diagnostics service.
